What I’m Really Enjoying About Blogging at the Moment
I love blogging!! After all, it’s something I’ve been doing since 2009. There are very few things in my life that I’ve stuck with for that amount of time. But just recently, I’ve discovered a new found love of blogging and it’s been an exhilarating experience. Here is what I am really enjoying about blogging at the moment.
Until you blog or rely on good lighting for your work, you will never appreciate truly appreciate the light nights of the summer months. In the early days, before I really took much notice of photography lighting principles, it didn’t really matter to me. However, now that I aim to perfect the limited photography skills I possess, you’d be amazed at just how much I have to rearrange my working days during the winter months to find the best time for shooting pictures. I’m always disappointed when something comes up and I miss out on the best hours of lighting for that day. The summer time is much better! I like my pictures to be bright and light, so the summer season offers endless opportunities for me to capture the perfect shots!
You will often hear bloggers talking about niche. I talk about how to create your own unique niche in my course. Having a blogging niche is important, but the wonderful thing about blogging is that you have the freedom to create your own niche that suits your own content style and interests. In many industries you either “fit” or you don’t. But the beauty of blogging is not fitting in, and instead being completely unique and wonderful. Your niche and the type of content you create may evolve over time - that's normal. It doesn't have to be perfect and all decided from the moment you launch your blog. However, staying authentic and producing content you're passionate about is important.
I’ve met so many amazing friends and acquaintances through blogging. And I know that when I say this, I’m not alone. I know many bloggers who have met friends, partners and business partners through blogging. When you first start out blogging, you can feel as though it’s just you, alone, stuck behind your computer screen. When in fact, blogging has the possibility to be a very sociable creative outlet if only you allow it to be such. Attend networking events, join Facebook groups, and meet other bloggers.
They say that money breeds money. Personally, I’d like to rephrase that to “opportunity breeds opportunity.” As a blogger it is important to network and get your name out there. Once you do, you’ll be surprised at how many new opportunities come your way through the new contacts you make. Networking with other bloggers is useful for this too. I can't tell you how many times I have received an email from somebody I'd briefly connected with a while ago, for it then to lead on to a paid collaboration. Also, reputation is everything. If a client or agency is happy with your work they will recommend you to others and supply you with repeat projects. Don't hide away! Get yourself out there and show off your hard work!
