Welcome to #Dressember Day 1
Welcome to #Dressember Day 1! The idea of Dressember is that participants wear dresses everyday throughout the month of December. I’m lucky that I am able to wear what I like for work but if you’re unable to wear dresses because of work or other commitments, don’t worry you can still participate provided that you wear a dress at some point during the day – every day.
In the past I’ve enjoyed taking part in #Blogmas throughout December. It’s fun, it’s creative and personally, I just think that it’s such a lovely lead up to Christmas and a great way to end the year. This year I was planning to do the same until I saw an advertisement for #Dressember, which seemed like something that could be quite fitting with the Online Personal Stylist ethos. After learning more about the campaign I decided that it was definitely a project in which I wanted to participate! So, this year we have #Dressember running throughout the month of December rather than #Blogmas. Don’t worry, there will still be lots of Christmas content for you to enjoy in other posts across the blog.
Before I dive in and reveal my first Outfit of the Day post for Dressember 2017, I wanted to take the opportunity to explain the cause in a little more detail. Everyday throughout the month of December, participants are required to wear a dress instead of trousers, jeans, leggings, etc. Among some minorities, dresses represent weakness and inequality, which is why participants of the campaign will be wearing them across the entire 31-day project. We are wearing dresses to raise awareness and collect donations to end modern day slavery and human trafficking. Donations raised help fund life-saving work through the International Justice Mission and A21, who are partnering with the Dressember team for this cause.
I thought I’d kick off the Dressember project with this summer dress that I’ve managed to make suitable for winter wear. A long strap dress with a thigh-high slit down the left-hand side sounds very daring for one of the coldest months of the year! Paired with a pair of thick black leggings worn underneath and a comfortable and classic red button-up cardigan, this dress is now a practical winter option! As for footwear I’m wearing these flat tassel ankle boots in shade midnight blue.
You can become an advocate and get involved by wearing a dress every day of this month. You can support Online Personal Stylist and donate here. You can also share this post and my campaign page to help raise awareness for this campaign. And, as I’m providing daily styling tips this month through my daily dress outfit posts, you can also take these points on board by learning how to revamp items in your wardrobe that you already own. Despite being a professional fashion stylist, I’m a serious advocate for sustainable and cruelty-free fashion, which is one of the reasons this campaign really appealed to me. All this month I will be showing you how you can wear almost any item from your wardrobe at any time of the year. As you will see throughout this project, many of the dresses I plan to wear are actually from my summer wardrobe! With the help of some clever styling tricks, a dose of creativity, and strategic layering tactics, it is possible to transfer many of your garments between contrasting seasons!
Check out the Online Personal Stylist blog and Instagram for daily Outfit of the Day posts throughout December – to give you ideas and outfit inspiration for winter dress outfits!
Those who donate and sponsor me will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win one of the many prizes on offer from Online Personal Stylist! Winners will be announced on January 5th 2018 – something positive with which to start off the year!
