Christian Louboutin shoes are one of the most popular brands of shoes. Whilst the brand offers a very attractive collection of footwear, usually with a heel measuring 120mm / 4.72 inches, they don’t suit everybody’s budget or ethical values. However, if you are looking to decorate your feet with a statement shoe that resembles the classic Louboutin design then this DIY “make your own Christian Louboutin shoes” tutorial is just what you need.
“Paint your soles red!”
The classic black stiletto shoe with its red-lacquered sole is the most famous and classic type of Christian Louboutin shoe. Christian Louboutin was the original designer to give his shoes a bold but sophisticated red sole whose exact tone is Pantone 18-1663 TPX (Chinese Red). There have been similar shoes by other brands that bear a statement red sole, including collections from Prada and Jimmy Choo but there is something utterly different about Louboutin red soles. Perhaps it’s the patent shade of Chinese Red casually adding an element of understated glamour with every step?
The History of the Christian Louboutin “Sammy-Red-Bottoms”
Take away the red leather soles and you have yourself a pretty standard shoe. This point was certainly not overlooked by Mr. Louboutin buy meridia online himself, especially in the early years of his shoe-making career when his business was struggling. Wondering how he could differentiate his shoes from those of other designers, he sought inspiration back in 1993 from his assistant when he was watching her as she sat at her desk painting her nails. As the French designer watched his assistant paint her nails in a vibrant shade of red, he simultaneously found the answer to his question that was keeping him from success: how can he liven up the design of his shoes? He grabbed a pair of stilettos, asked to borrow the nail polish from his assistant and began to paint the soles of the shoes with the red nail polish. The designer knew at that moment that this design would be an instant success!

Ok, so this £3 nail polish trick isn't going to give you the same results as splurging £600+ on a genuine pair of Christian Louboutin heels. If you’ve ever wanted to own your own red-soled Louboutin-esque shoes then all you need is:
- A pair of heels (I have used a simple pair of black stilettos but you can choose any colour here)
- Red nail polish
Simply paint the soles with the nail polish and leave to dry. You may need to apply a few coats to cover the original soles. I used this nail polish for just £2.10 and it worked great!
