How to Enjoy a Brighter Smile | #AD

In recent years, I’ve learned that there are two features that can make all the difference to the quality of your appearance. The first is your eyebrows. You can instantly take years off your face and look thinner by not over plucking your brows. The second is your teeth. We can spend a fortune on making ourselves look and feel better but no amount of makeup or cosmetic procedures will compensate for an unhealthy looking smile. Here I’m sharing with you some of my top tips and personal experiences on how to enjoy a brighter smile.

Why You Should Consider Braces

Keeping your teeth and mouth healthy is so important. Oral health is important but let’s be honest, we all want an attractive looking smile as well. Personally, I wouldn’t write about or encourage any permanent cosmetic procedure because I don’t think it encourages positive body image. On the other hand, dental procedures such as teeth straightening not only provide you with a better smile, it can also make oral hygiene easier for you.
Teeth straightening is a great option that is definitely worth considering but make sure you do your research first! Compared to when I had braces about 15 years ago, there is much more information on the pros and cons of these types of dental procedures. There is also a wider choice available. When I went to my orthodontist, the only option was metal braces stuck to my teeth for three years. Nowadays, provided that your budget allows, you can opt for invisible braces or fixtures on the inside if your teeth instead. Thinking back to when I was a teenager, I know that many of my classmates passed on the opportunity to have braces and now regret it. While it can seem like a daunting prospect, the final result will be a winning smile and teeth that are easier to clean and no longer in hard to reach places.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Toothbrush

Basic oral care begins with a good toothbrush and toothpaste. As trivial as it might sound, using a toothbrush and toothpaste that you dislike could prevent you from achieving a thorough clean. It’s easy to pick up a new toothpaste with an unsavoury taste which is why it’s best to find reliable products that you can pick up whenever you’ve ran out.
I always love it when I pick up personal care products that I enjoy using. It’s easy to let shopping for toiletries and bathroom cupboard supplies become a chore or something that just becomes routine. Personally, I’ve found that buying products that I’m interested in using makes for a more enjoyable experience. Plus, when I like using certain cosmetics and personal care items, I’m more likely to use them properly, meaning that I get the full benefits from them. One of my recent discoveries was the Colgate Floss Tip Battery Toothbrush. I’ve been using this for a little while now and I can safely say that it’s now a permanent fixture in my beauty regime.
The Colgate Floss Tip Battery Toothbrush features:
  • Floss-tip bristles
  • Dual action brush head
  • Tongue and cheek cleaner for bacterial removal
  • Angled bristles for cleaning along the gum line
  • 360 degree cleaning
  • 5 x more clean
Yet picking a toothbrush isn’t a one-size-fits-all procedure. Different toothbrushes work for different people. It’s recommended that you work out which type of toothbrush is right for you and then stick to that type. For example, some consumers love electric toothbrushes, whereas others have made the switch from manual to electric and hated it! Again, there are now so many different electric toothbrushes on the market that you’re sure to find the right to suit your needs. Alternatively, you might be more interested in a manual toothbrush. If this is the case, make sure that the bristle density suits your gums and teeth. If you have sensitive gums and teeth, you might be more compatible with a soft bristle brush.

Recycling Your Old Toothbrushes

Don’t forget to recycle your old toothbrushes and toothbrush heads. If you're using an electric toothbrush then do remember to recycle the batteries as well. There are lots of ways you can do this – just don’t forget! Some supermarkets and individual brands have programs that make this convenient for you. Otherwise, save them up and recycle them through your available means for recycling plastic.

Lastly, drinking lots of water and eating a healthy, balanced diet will help you to maintain a happy smile!
