Discover Eco-Friendly Oral Care: Kind to Your Mouth and the Planet.
Oral hygiene is almighty important. There are constant reminders everywhere we go to take care of our oral health – in magazine and every time we turn on the TV and see an advert. Taking proper care of our teeth and gums means stocking up on quality toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash, and dental supplements. At the same time, we’re all on a mission to reduce our waste and adopt more sustainable habits in our daily lives. One of the simplest efforts we can make that will have the biggest impact immediately is to reduce the waste caused by products we use on a daily basis. These include toiletries and cleansing products. Today I want to introduce you to a fantastic conscious brand called Brushd.: an eco-friendly oral health care company that can help you to make your dental care regime more sustainable.
There’s no denying that plastic, whether in the form of product packaging or otherwise, is everywhere! But it’s not until you consciously make an effort to minimise your single-waste plastic consumption or go zero-waste completely that you realise how much we use across an average day, week, month, or year. Yes, recycling helps but it isn’t enough to combat the huge problem that is plastic pollution. What we really need to be doing at the very least, is switching to products with biodegradable product packaging and making as many ethical swaps as possible, before then recycling the remainder of the plastic we use. Unfortunately, not all plastic is recycled. Unlike other materials, plastic if not recycled, doesn’t break down and therefore sits in landfills, in our oceans and elsewhere forever. Cutting down on the amount of single-waste plastic that enters our homes and offices is one of the first, most important steps we should all be taking right now.
It can be easy to overlook the items we use on a daily basis, but these are often the items that are responsible for increasing our domestic carbon footprint. Seeing that I have teamed up with Brushd. to focus on eco-friendly dental care, let’s turn our attention to plastic waste produced from the dental products we use. Adequate oral hygiene requires the use of tooth floss, a tooth brush, toothpaste and mouthwash at minimum. While this is a great way of maintaining good oral health, the waste accumulated from all of these single-use products is dreadful for our planet. Dental floss comes in a plastic box and the floss itself is often coated in plastic. Toothpaste comes in a plastic tube. Toothbrushes are most often made from plastic and come in plastic and cardboard packaging which is difficult to recycle. And mouthwash comes in a plastic bottle. Talking about toothbrushes alone, let’s say that each of us gets through 4 toothbrushes each year. That’s 320 per person in a lifetime. Currently, there are approximately 67 million people living in the UK, which means based on these facts, 268 million toothbrushes are sent to landfills each year in the UK alone! If all of us were to make the effortless switch over to eco-friendly alternatives, imagine the difference we could make!?
Brushd. is an eco-friendly dental care brand offering a complete range of products that decrease our plastic pollution without compromising on your oral health. In my opinion, after careful examination of their products and the way in which they operate – I feel that they have thought of everything. Brushd. offers a range of products to cater to your daily dental care routine. As well as offering high quality biodegradable bamboo toothbrush with charcoal infused bristles, Brushd. also offer toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes too. Below you will find a list of the products I received and tested. It is clear to see how most of these items could be recycled or how they’re biodegradable, but what about the electric toothbrush heads? Well when sending out your order of electric toothbrush heads, Brushd. helpfully adds in pre-paid eco-friendly envelopes so that you can return your old brush heads and they will take care of the rest. What a great service is that!?
