A Review of the B.Tan Love at First Tan
If you’re on the lookout for a high quality false tan at an affordable price then B.Tan Love at First Tan is one to consider! I never thought of myself as a tan addict but this one has me hooked.
I started using the B.Tan Love at First Tan about a year ago and I am thoroughly impressed. It ticks all the boxes in terms of what I look for in the quality of a product, as well as ethical values. There are so many amazing things to say about this product. Hopefully this post will answer all of the questions and concerns you might pose when considering purchasing a tanning product.

B.Tan Tanned AF
I then recently decided to try out the B.Tan Tanned AF, which is a darker version. This tan is much darker but still equally as simple to apply. I absolutely love both products and it's great to be able to swap between the two. There is a noticeable difference between the results I got from these two products. I wasn't sure how much darker B.Tan Tanned AF would be in comparison with Love at First Tan. The first time I tried Tanned AF, I left the tanning moose on for just one hour, as it says on the bottle, and my skin was much darker than with Love at First Tan.
On the scale shown on each of B.Tan's tanning products, there is a bar to show the intensity of the tan's results. Whereas Love at First Tan is 2 out of 4, Tanned AF is 3 out of 5. It doesn't seem like a big difference but I found Tanned AF to be a lot darker. Tanned AF doesn't state that it has a violet base, which eliminates orange tones however, Tanned AF still produced an authentic looking tan just like Love at First Tan.
Which Tan Should You Choose?
Personally, I am going to continue to use different shades from the B.Tan range. The lighter shades, such as Love At First Tan, are ideal for the winter months when I want a healthy glow and a bit of a boost to my skin. These more subtle shades still provide noticeable results in just an hour. Don't forget that the B.Tan tanning mousses are also excellent for building up a tan too! I'd be more inclined to use the darker shades, such as Tanned AF, when I want an intense tan fast! So if I was going to the beach, on holiday, to a pool party then I'd use a darker tone. If you're looking to transform your pale winter skin into a bronzed, glowy summer skin then I'd opt for a darker shade. If you want to build a tan more gradually then I'd choose a lighter shade.
First Impressions
Prior to purchasing B.Tan Love at First Tan, I hadn’t actually heard of the brand. I picked up the product because it was a brand that I’d never tried before and thought it was worth testing. May I add that there is also a tanning mitt in the B.Tan range. The tanning mitt is good for those who struggle with achieving even coverage and when applying the tan on your back. Tanning mitts also prevent you from getting tan all over your hands. If you’re thinking of purchasing any tanning mousse from the B.Tan range, I’d advise you to also purchase the tanning mitt to prevent any home tanning disasters.
B.Tan Love at First Tan is ideal for all skin tones and doesn’t leave your skin looking orange either. It’s easy to apply and fades beautifully. This tan is just perfect for building a natural glow before you go on holiday. It doesn’t disappear or go patchy when you come into contact with water and it also fades like a natural tan.
My results after using one coat of the tanning foam and leaving it to develop for 1 hour.
How to Use B.Tan Love at First Tan
I bought the B.Tan self-tanning mousse not knowing how to properly apply it or how long it took to develop. I did a little research when I got home to gain a better understanding of how instant tanning mousses work. The B.Tan self-tan is a violet-based tanning mousse. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that it will leave your skin purple. The violet undertone just means that the tan won’t give your skin that orange tone that you get from using many other tanning products. It’s a similar concept to how purple shampoo works to tackle brassy tones on blonde hair. Another advantage to using this particular tanning product is the smell. Tanning products typically have a very potent scent which can be unpleasant. Luckily, B.Tan's foam tan doesn’t have a noticeably strong scent. This tan works instantly, so you don’t have to wait overnight before seeing results. It’s great for nights out or on occasions when you wake up to find the weather is suddenly warm enough to wear shorts and you just want a little extra glow.
Application is simple. Shake the bottle and apply the mousse on to clean, dry skin. Make sure you rub it in so that you get even coverage all over. Once you’re done, leave the tan on to develop for at least one hour before washing it off with water in the shower. What I love about this product is that it’s buildable. For a subtle glow, apply one layer of tan and leave on for one hour. To achieve a darker, more intense tan, apply two coats and leave to develop for around four hours. Like I mentioned earlier, the B.Tan tanning mitt is an excellent accompaniment to make application easier and less messy.
How Long Does it Last?
I’ve found that this tan lasts for about a week after one application. There are darker shades available in the B.Tan range. I opted for Love at First Tan, which is shade 2 out of 4. Shade 4 is the darkest tan, but Love at First Tan appears to be the most popular in the range.
The Different Shades of Tan by B.Tan are as Follows:
Shade 1 (the lightest) = Fake it Till You Make
Shade 2 = Love at First Tan
Shade 3 = Tanned AF
Shade 4 (the darkest) = I Want the Darkest Tan Possible
Having fallen in love with the results I’ve achieved from using this product, I’d be inclined to test out other shades by the same brand. I’d highly recommend this self-tan as a false tan that you can wear all year round, as well as before you go on holiday. I’ve always wanted to find a fake tan that I can use during that transition period when you want to start wearing summer clothes before you’ve built up a natural tan in the sun. Of course, if you don’t like to sunbathe and prefer to stick to false tan to achieve a healthy bronzed glow then this is one to try! Unlike other self-tanners and spray tans that give you instant results, this doesn’t transfer on to clothes, bedding or furnishings. Before switching to using B.Tan false tan, I used to use tanning cream which would often transfer on to my white chairs when I wore shorts. The Love at First Tan mousse seems to absorb really well into my skin which means that it doesn’t transfer onto garments or other materials and it allows the tan to fade in a natural, even way.
Is B.Tan Love at First Tan Cruelty-Free?
Yes, the B.Tan Love at First Tan is cruelty-free. One of the reasons why I chose to buy this particular self-tan is because of its cruelty-free and vegan status. That said, while I am often tempted to purchase products based on their ethical status, it doesn’t influence my opinion if the product doesn’t live up to my expectations. However, I am very happy to share that the B.Tan Love at First Tan fulfills my expectations and is a very impressive product.
The B.Tan self-tan is:
- Vegan
- Cruelty-free
- Paraben-free
- Sustainably sourced
- Doesn’t contain any nasty, harmful ingredients
- 100% natural DHA
- And the packaging is full recyclable too!
On a final note, I highly recommend this cruelty-free self-tan and it’s one I will certainly continue to use.
