Lavender – Pantone’s Colour of the Year

Pantone’s “Colour of the Year” for 2018 lavender. Lavender is a fantastic colour to incorporate into your life in general because of its calming, peaceful ambiance.  Lavender is a shade that is therapeutically easy to blend and coordinate. Pair it with denim for an idyllic spring outfit. Wear it with mint green, slate grey, pink blossom, or buttercup yellow – just some of the many colour combinations that work well.

Wear it With…

Pastel Colours

Lavender, pink, blue, and mint are all on-trend shades for spring and summer fashion this year. Pastel shades look beautiful when mixed together or when worn with contrasting tones and textures. One of the main issues that some people face with pastel shades is that they don’t understand how to style them in a modern and youthful way. The trick with any soft material that may be prone to looking slightly dated is to wear it with a contrasting texture. Mixing textures allows you to change the typical style of an outfit piece or colour without adding anything else – like accessories, heavy make-up, etc. Combining “rougher” textures like (vegan) suede, leather, denim, velvet or faux fur with soft, lightweight fabrics will enable you to vary the appearance of your outfit. This enables you to create an edgy, stylish finished look that you can customise in a way that you prefer.

Can you remember back to the SS18 fashion shows last autumn? Do you remember seeing bright orange all over the runway? Bright orange is one of the top colours to wear this spring/summer. Personally, I think spring is the perfect time to wear orange in varying tones – from burnt orange to zesty orange. Orange is a fun, vibrant shade that can be worn as a single colour – as a suit or a dress, or mixed with other colours and textures. The SS18 fashion shows featured many vibrant “colour block” orange outfits where bright orange was mixed with other bold, statement shades. Some of the statement hues that work well with orange include fuchsia, emerald green and forget-me-not-blue. In a modern-day, updated style, the spring/summer fashion shows also referenced the popular colour block suit trends from the 90s –sans dramatic shoulder pads luckily! So for those of you who’ve dreamed of channelling their inner Cher Horowitz (Clueless) or Vivian Ward/Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman – post sophisticated makeover), this year is definitely your chance!
Not quite sure that orange fashion is the right way to style your spring summer 2018 wardrobe? Why not first experiment with a pop of orange nail polish instead? Or a swipe of fire-orange lip colour?

Spring Summer 2018 Hair Trends

This year’s hair is very natural. Loose layers around the face to flatter your bone structure and complexion. Messy buns to give a cute, natural appearance. Wavy, beach curls to signify your inner goddess. Basically, we’re moving away from stiff, overly-perfected hairdo’s in favour of low maintenance, softer looks that are subsequently less ageing on your face and save you some much needed styling time in the morning. For fast and effective bounce I’d recommend Sleep-in Rollers.

SS18 Nail Colours

Spring Summer 2018 nail trends are all about contrast. The preferred light shade for this season is metallic nude. The popular dark shade for SS18 is Burgundy Bordeaux.
