#GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether: Styling an Ethical Fashion Campaign

At the beginning of 2019 I began working as the main stylist on a wonderful fashion campaign called “Good Brands Do Better Together”. It’s an ethical fashion campaign that shows off the amazing assortment of products from conscious brands. This campaign has involved a lot of work and coordination and I am so pleased to now be able to share with you the pictures of the outfits that I styled for this project.

The #GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether campaign unites ethical and sustainable brands from around the globe, to show we are a real alternative to the brands destroying lives and environments around the world.

For 15 weeks, the collective of brands reveal each Wednesday a thematic look on social media, with the hashtag #GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether, introducing our followers to cool and classy designs they may not have discovered otherwise.

“There is a common misconception that there is a limited choice when shopping ethical fashion, but this campaign proves that this isn’t the case,” says Luisa Kearney from Online Personal Stylist, who curated the looks.

Coordinator Stevie Mitchell from Bambooka UK says “For ethical/sustainable products to become the norm we all need to stick together as we don't have the marketing budget of the likes of Topshop or H&M. A few ethical brands will gain mass exposure which is good but if all us smaller brands worked together to replace the companies that don't care about the people making their products or the environment, that could mean an ethical or sustainable alternative to almost any product on the market.”

The campaign launched on 31st July 2019 and will run until 6 November 2019 and can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether.

Styled Looks from #GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether

Here are some of the styled looks that I created from the #GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether that have been released so far. Each week we reveal a new look and I, as the stylist of the project, like to include a little bit of an insight into my creative visions that inspired these looks.
#GoodBrandsDoBetterTogether
I called this look "Picnic in the Park" because I thought that this was a beautiful, casual outfit and the bamboo cup and towel are so stylish that you need to create an opportunity to use them! The sunglasses are made out of recycled bamboo and I just love the style and colour of them!

Dive into the Deep Blue Sea in Sapphire was a look I created to emphasise all of the stunning shades of blue within this collection. Blue is such a universal colour to wear and it's highly flattering on most skin tones too. I find that blue is one of those timeless colours - it's a colour that you can wear year after year and it never seems to date. What's impressive about this outfit is that each item is striking on its own or they can be worn together like this look shows.

Week 3's look is called Summer Club Essentials because it's primarily made up of items for children, or at least they can be used by children. There's a bamboo cup which is ideal for hot or cold drinks and safe to be used by all ages. The t-shirt and sunglasses are from the children's range, and the canvas pouch is a cute little child-friendly addition that can be used to keep together all of your child's belongings.

Ideally, for a summer party you need an outfit that offers both comfort and glamour. You want to look like you made an effort, without looking like you're too overdressed. Summer is all about that laid-back, cool vibe, and I think the A-line skirt, wedges and bangle are a good example of what summer style is all about. This t-shirt is a unisex shirt, but just look how well it works with the elegant pieces that make up the outfit.

At the time of naming this look, with summer time time in mind, I named it: From the Beach to Cannes Festival. Incidentally, as the photos from the photo shoot I styled were released, I noticed how the items collectively bear a strong nod to the currently on-trend 60s style, which is going to be very big this autumn. So ultimately, this look is the perfect beach or festival look in the summer, but simply add a pair of thick opaque tights or leggings in the cooler months and you have yourself the perfect transitional outfit for summer to autumn.

Week 6 in the campaign was a good time to remind everybody what a great choice of ethical clothing there is for men, as well as women and children. I wanted to keep this look clean and simple because generally speaking, most men tend to prefer quality over quantity. This look does just that by showing a couple of quality style staples for men.

Many of the looks in this campaign were styled to suit the idyllic moments of leisure time that we can enjoy during the warmer months. But of course, not everyday is so leisurely and time-free. Dashing from the Gym to Lunch is just the outfit you need for those busy days when you're dashing from obligation to occasion with little time in between to change.

Days at the office are so much more enjoyable in the summer, and also when you look good! Warmer Days at the Office is professional and practical, proving that work wear can be fun, appropriate, comfortable and of course, ethical too! This "holds-everything" tote bag is a must-have! It's the kind of bag you can take to the beach, to work, use for a weekend away and while out shopping.

Coffee Date Alfresco is the type of outfit that you could wear during the day or evening. Worn alone, the dress and sandals would look simple and chic - a perfectly adequate combination for day or nighttime outings. But throw in the bold accessories and with the addition of that striking pop of clover yellow, you have yourself a truly glamorous combination. I know that many women are put off wearing stripes because they fear that their silhouette will appear wider and that stripes are unflattering. The beauty of this dress is that it would be flattering on most body shapes. The forgiving plunge neckline and a-line skirt will balance out your upper and lower body without highlighting heavier proportions. Top tip: whenever you want to dress up an outfit to take it from day to night, simply add a bold pop of colour through your accessories.

As the name suggests, inspiration for this look was taken from Lady Diana, Princess of Wales. The dusky pink shirt reminds me of her later outfits when she was heavily involved in her aid work. The little white bag reminds me of the classic "Lady Dior" by Christian Dior, which was renamed as such to honour the late princess after she fell in love with the updated model of the bag in 1995. Subsequently, Princess Diana ordered the bag in every available design and henceforth, it became a bag with which she was commonly photographed and associated.

Don't forget to keep up to date with future looks in this campaign by following me over on Instagram where I will be showcasing the remainder of the looks I've styled for this collection. I hope you enjoy experiencing this fabulous choice of styles as much as I have enjoyed styling them!
