4 Top Tips on Finding the Best Christmas Gifts
There is nothing quite as lovely as seeing your name on a Christmas gift that is adorned with a bow. Christmas is about so much more than giving than receiving, and as we get older we all learn that. That doesn't mean we don't like the idea of receiving gifts, and it doesn't mean we wouldn't want them! Buying gifts can however be quite a stressful experience, especially if you are buying for those you don't spend much time with, or there are people who are new to your life.
For example, if you have been roped into a Secret Santa with your work colleagues and you're buying for somebody you don't know, that can be pretty stressful! You want to buy gifts that matter and that make the other person feel good, but you don't want to drain your bank account at the same time. You can shop online with stores such as the lifestyle brand Vape Locker and fashion store Fendi, and you could even head to your local charity shop to see what you can find. Where you shop does not matter, as long as you can do it without breaking the bank. So here are some tips so that you can still shop for Christmas without bankrupting yourself in the meantime.
- Set yourself a budget per person. One of the easiest ways to avoid going too far over budget and losing control at Christmas is to make sure that your budget is person based. For example, if you wouldn't spend the same amount of money on your mother-in-law versus your own mother, then adjust your budget accordingly. It honestly doesn't matter what you spend on people individually, what does matter is what's received and how it's received. The earlier you set your budget the better because this way you can plan.
- Take advantage of the sales. The holidays are actually a great time to shop because there are so many sales especially after Black Friday. If you make a point of holding off to buy your main Christmas presents until the sales, you're going to save a lot of money and your budgets can be adjusted to buy other gifts. It's a great way to ensure that you are able to cover all of your bases.
- Make the gifts as sentimental as possible. It's a good way to make sure that you were able to buy for everybody without breaking the bank. Sentimental gifts can also be handmade ones, and you could make and wrap up cookies or jams that you know somebody loves and just make it so that the gifts are about the giving rather than the price. Older people, especially grandparents, often prefer handmade gifts because it shows the effort that has gone in and the thought that you have put into the gift as well.
- Give away all of the hand me downs. If you have things that are in great condition such as toys or notebooks you haven't used or pen sets that you haven't used, regift them. Some people think that regifting is rude, but when you're on a budget you have to remember that it's about the thought. If you don't have a massive budget for presents then people will just be thankful you thought of them enough to get them something even if that something is something you didn't want. Whether it's jewellery or artwork, antiques or furniture, regift where you can.
